The gateway to the world of macro photography
Whether you’re a professional photographer looking for a lens for your next shoot, or an amateur looking to expand your focal range.
The Irix 150mm f / 2.8 Macro 1:1 lens is a Macro lens created for your full frame (35mm) camera, and is available in Nikon F, Canon EF, and Pentax K mounts.
The lens allows you to take macro photos with a 1:1 magnification ratio. When you use a camera with an APS-C sensor, due to the crop factor, the magnification ratio will increase to 1,5:1.
Optics that guarantee sharp photos
Creativity, your ideas, and the effort you put into each photo would be nothing without the right lens. Thanks to many years of experience in designing optics, the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 was meticulously engineered for incredible sharpness. The optical design has been made to produce an extremely sharp image from f/2.8. The use of 11 rounded aperture blades results not only in extremely smooth and soft bokeh, but also in minimizing the diffraction phenomenon (decrease in resolution associated with stopping down the aperture). With further stopping down, the image sharpness further improves, which is crucial in macro photography, because we are often forced to use small aperture values to obtain a sufficiently large depth of field.
You compose the image – we’ll take care of the rest!
A Build You Can Trust
It doesn’t matter if your traversing the hot sands of the Sachara or covering the vast expanse of Antarctica – this lens will endure any challenge.
The sealing system has been designed to protect the inside of the lens from moisture, dust, and sand. The lens is equipped with an internal focusing system, meaning it does not change its physical size during focusing.
The whole body remains solid and study, and ready to operate in all conditions.
Ready for Any Conditions
Finish: DRAGONFLY
Features:
- Reinforced internal construction based on metal elements
- scratch-resistant finish
- Anti-slip focusing ring with special finish for easy focusing
- Engraved markings filled with UV reactive paint
- Excellent weather-sealing to protect against dust and water
- hard case included
Dragonfly is a combination of reinforced metal and composite elements. This combination has resulted in an extremely durable, compact structure, which thanks to internal focusing and multiple seals, remains resistant to adverse weather conditions.
At Irix, we believe that the lens is not just a tool in the hands of a photographer. The overall impression of the photo creation process is important to us. A lens has to be fun and easy to use! That is why the ergonomics and design of our products are so important to us.
Intelligent Lens Design
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 has a module that allows you to control the lens iris directly from the camera, thanks to which popular semi-automatic modes (PASM), and data recording in EXIF format are available.
The use of electronics also enables the lens to be equipped with a focus confirmation system – the camera will confirm the proper focus distance (either in the form of an icon in the viewfinder or sound), every time you set the focus correctly – it’s really easy!
Additional features
Focus Lock – allows you to lock the focusing ring in a specific position, which is extremely beneficial when you want to be sure you set the correct magnification ratio, e.g. 1: 1 while shooting.
Tripod clamp with foot (Arca Swiss standard) – macro photography requires extraordinary precision. We have good news for all photographers using a tripod: thanks to the tripod clamp, you can safely and securely attach your camera to the lens. Thanks to this solution, the center of gravity of the camera lens remains neutral, and the vibrations associated with focusing and operating the camera are minimized.
Focus ring – when shooting small elements, depth of field usually covers only a few millimeters or less, so it is important that sharpening is precise. The rotation angle of the focus ring on the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 is as much as 270 degrees, guaranteeing extremely smooth and precise sharpening.
Focus ring ergonomics – after tireless testing, we have developed a material characterized by its high mechanical strength and resistance to adverse conditions. Special texturing allows for reliable and precise focusing, and dedicated embossing allows you to feel the position of the ring, making sharpening even easier.
Compatible with filters
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 lens allows the use of classic screw-in filters (77mm) and square filters, thanks to the Irix Edge IFH-100 mount.
The use of filters in landscape photography allows you to awaken your creativity and achieve amazing effects, which makes them extremely practical.
Available mounts
The Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 is available in Canon EF, Nikon F, and Pentax K mounts.

This review is from the Amazon store:
“Most of my photography is of small subjects such as lichens up close, for which I much prefer a macro lens without autofocus and image stabilization and with long focus throw, (unlike my Nikon 105, seemingly designed with those features in mind, making it bulky, heavy, expensive, and its focus throw is way too short. Relatively recently Ive been using a Rokinon 100 which has fit my needs well, but couldnt resist trying the IRIX 150, and so far it has been great. The 150mm focal length works well for me. An unusual feature that has turned out to be surprisingly useful is a focus locking mechanism”

“A great macro for Pentax K mount. The tripod foot fits my Arca head nicely. The F2.8 aperture makes for easy focusing. I would recommend this lens. The only complaint is the focus ring has to be turned a lot from macro to infinity”

This review is from the Amazon store:
“First let me say that Im enjoying using this lens. Its great looking and has a nice feel and the photographs from my K1 are bright and sharp. I love the focus ring, especially the focus lock feature where I can dial in a little resistance for dampening. The lens looks and feels professional and is a little heavier than I expected, but thats a good thing for me. The fit on the K1 is perfect, it balances very well on that camera. Now for the two minor problems, no big deal but the lens foot is pretty small. Ive attached a RRS lens foot to make it just a little longer, and the RRS lens foot also has two safety screws to keep the lens from sliding out of my ballheads clamp. The second thing is the lens hood. Its a little hard to take off. Maybe in time itll loosen up a bit, but for the moment it takes a small amount of force to remove it and reattach it to the lens. Minor problems though when you consider the image quality and the fun of using a manual focus lens like this Irix. This is my first lens by Irix but it wont be the last”

This review is from the Amazon store:
“I had the critically-acclaimed Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD lens; was never all that thrilled with it. I even had it get internal debris TWICE, though Tamron removed debris both times without hassle and at no cost to me. But once I got my Nikon Z7 I found the Tamron caused the Z7 to do weird things (such as a bunch of weird clunking sounds in the Z7 each time I turned it on with the Tamron 90 mounted). So when I learned of this Irix 150 I decided to try it. I am SO glad I did. I have now sold the Tamron with no regrets. I have not yet used the Irix much at all, but on its maiden voyage (into sub-freezing weather, with my fingers [and brain] moving slowly) it was super easy to use and seems to give superb results. I especially appreciate that the collar has an Arca-swiss compatible foot; fits on my RRS BH-40 ball head & clamp perfectly. Last note: the manual focusing turns through 270 degrees, and is extremely smooth; it is precisely what I want and need in a lens like this. I am very happy to add this lens to my kit!”

“I discovered news of this lens as reference from an online photography course. So glad I tracked down a means of supply, B&H. From there to Australia I watched if travel, then, the postal systen surpassed normal expectations and delivery was 4 days early. Our wet season has hindered chances of continuel use, but what I have taken amazes my friends from the photo club and followers on facebook. So easy to use and my focus by using the screen even easier, on a tripod of cohrse. Though I did capture a startling photo of a blue ringed bee in flight handheld which won me great many WOWS on facebook. Not afraid to use the lens in this current weather though naturally I keep it dry, but without a motor inside for auto focus its not creating friction warmth from inside, is my theory. I look forward to sunny times and more great photos”

“Great lens, love the fact that it is weather sealed and the length of the lens doesn’t change when focusing as all that is internal to the housing, IQ is extremely sharp and Bokeh is lovely!”

This review is from the Amazon store:
“I ordered this lens because I wanted to be further away from my subject than was possible with my Nikon 105mm f/2.8 AFS micro. I received this lens in mid december 2018. The packaging was fantastic, it arrived in a sealed box, and come with a semi-hard fitted zippered case which was another unexpected surprise. The lens came with front and rear covers, the rear cover has been put away and replaced by a Nikon one as it was loose fitting and I didnt want to lose it. The hood fit well with a reassuring click Removing the hood however is easy with the lens facing away from you and grasping it with your right hand on the top, other positions may frustrate you as the hood doesnt seem to want to come off otherwise. Quality exudes from this lens, the finish and markings are flawless, the focus is smooth and the focus lock is a nice added bonus as is the tripod collar that locks perfectly on my Really Right Stuff ball head. The image quality is as expected, I can find no flare in my images even when shooting into the sun. Macro images are tack sharp and I noticed no chromatic aberrations”

"Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1 - unique modern, manual focus macro lens. It has a very high build quality and very high optical characteristics. Irix 150 / 2.8 shows very low distortion, very low chromatic aberration (they are practically absent!) and slight vignetting."

"What I’m most shocked by is the sharpness. I didn’t expect this lens to be that sharp. The bokeh is just beautiful and the feeling of the images is very organic. There is no micro-contrast or trickery: it’s just the pop from the 11 aperture blades and the sharpness that the lens renders. The title of this piece calls this lens The Bokeh King, and it indeed really is."

"We expect macro lenses to be good, and the results from this Irix lens easily live up to our expectations. Sharpness centrally is very good at f/2.8, excellent from f/4 through to f/8, very good at f/11 and f/16, good at f/22 and fair at f/32. There is no doubt that there will be many photographers who will be delighted by the arrival of the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro lens."
