ingredients

20 whole chicken wings
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
1 bottle KC Masterpiece original barbecue sauce
1/4 cup honey
2 cups flour
oil, for deep frying

directions

Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Grease a baking sheet. Heat oil in a deep fryer or deep skillet to 350 degrees F.

Remove the tips from the chicken wings and separate the wings at the joint.

Combine the eggs and milk in a shallow dish and whisk until smooth. Combine the barbecue sauce and honey in a small bowl and set aside.

Place the flour in another shallow dish.

Dip the wing pieces in the egg mixture, coating completely and letting any excess drip off. Toss in the flour until completely coated. Repeat a second time so the wings have a heavy coating on them.

Place the wings in the hot oil and cook, in batches as needed, until golden brown. Remove from the oil and let drain on paper toweling.

Dip the wings in the barbecue sauce and place on the prepared baking sheet in a single layer. Place the baking in the oven and bake at 325 degrees F for 15-20 minutes or until the sauce has started to caramelize.

Serve hot with additional honey barbecue sauce for dipping if desired.

recipe tips

For an extra crispy coating, refrigerate the coated wings for 30 minutes before frying.

Adjust the amount of honey in the barbecue sauce to taste.

If reheating in the oven, cover the wings loosely with foil to prevent them from drying out.

Try different flavors of barbecue sauce, such as spicy or hickory smoked, for different variations.

common recipe questions

Can I use a different barbecue sauce for this recipe?

You can use any barbecue sauce you like but KC Masterpiece will get you the closest flavor to KFC's wings.

Can I bake the wings instead of frying them?

You can bake the wings at 325 degrees F for about 45-50 minutes, flipping halfway through and coating with the barbecue sauce at that point.

What is the purpose of dipping the wings in the egg mixture and flour twice?

Dipping the wings in the egg mixture and flour twice creates a thicker, crunchier coating for the wings.

Can I use boneless chicken for this recipe?

You can use boneless chicken strips instead of bone-in chicken wings if desired. Just adjust the baking time as needed.

How can I make this recipe spicier?

Add some cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the barbecue sauce mixture.

Can I prepare the wings in advance and reheat them later?

You can prepare the wings ahead of time and reheat them in the oven.

Can I use a different type of flour for coating the wings?

You can use a gluten-free flour or cornstarch for coating the wings if you prefer.

How should I store leftovers?

Store any leftover wings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer.

Should I let the wings cool before tossing them in the barbecue sauce?

It's best to toss the wings in the barbecue sauce while they are still warm so the sauce can adhere better.

Can I bake these in an air fryer instead of the oven?

Yes, just note that the sauce may splatter a bit in the air fryer. Set the air fryer to 300 degrees and air fry for 12-15 minutes or until cooked through.

Great ! I used boneless chicken instead as well as Jack Daniel's barbecue sauce since I couldnt find KC in the store. My fiance (quite the critic) loved it ! As did my preschooler son. It was delicious. I'm definitely adding this to my recipe stash

Definitely follow the directions to make the thick coating on the wings - that's key!!

Who doesn’t love the amazing KFC Honey Barbecue Wings? The combination of KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce and honey gives these wings their amazing flavor. The key to the crispy batter is dipping the wings in the flour two three times to get that nice, thick coating. Set aside some of the KC Masterpiece barbecue sauce and honey mixture for dipping.

It's not a party without chicken wings! you get loads of taste with these double dipped wings. Better than KFC IMHO!

I used drummies so I didn't have to deal with the wing tips (more expensive but easier when you are in a hurry). I used the deep fryer so I could maintain the heat better. Delicious. Better than KFC, or any bar wings for that matter.

These were delicious. I only floured twice as others suggested and I also seasoned the raw chicken with seasoned salt and pepper before flouring and dipping. I used Kraft Hot BBQ sauce because it was all I had in stock. I ended up having to use about half a cup of honey because it wasn't sweet enough to me. I had 2/3 the wings requested and the bottle of sauce plus honey just barely was enough so if you do the full recipe amount of wings you may want to have a little extra sauce on standby just in case. If you like KFC you'll love these, very similar in taste and texture.

KC Masterpiece is the key to this recipe. Don't try any other brand of barbecue sauce. These wings are our favorite!

I loved the wings, they tasted great. The batter was excellent but could have used as little bit more seasoning but over all was great. I encourage others to try it.

I finally got around to making these. They were delicious. I too only put two coats of flour on. I did not think of seasoning them before hand but will do so next time.

Absolutely wonderful!!!! Taste just like KFC's!! I used boneless skinless chicken breast and just cut them up into bite size pieces and it tasted wonderful!!! Also, I consider it very easy to make just a little time consuming but not to bad.

it was really good, I substituted legs because my wings were frozen.lol. But it still came out great, oh yeah you should definetly season your chicken before you dip it in the batter , i used the three basic meat seasonings, seasoned salt, garlic salt and pepper.

These wings were very good, but I would recommend seasoning the wings before you put them throught the batter. And you really do not need that much of a batter, nor do you need to dip them 4 times. They are way good, just like at KFC.

Hi Folks! I really enjoyed these wings and would easily recommend them. I would have given them a 5 but I thought the wet batter needed a little more than what was called for. Next time I will add some salt and pepper to the wet batter. I would also highly recommend not putting four coats of batter on each wing. I only put two coats on mine and they came out finger-licking-good.Enjoy,Mike
