What happened to Paul Carrack? ›

Carrack maintains an active solo career, as well as his career as a session musician and songwriter, touring solo in 2002, mostly opening for bands such as Supertramp. He also served as the sole lead vocalist for Mike + The Mechanics following the death of Paul Young in 2000.

He also performed drums and percussion on the album and its tour. Shortly after, Carrack became too involved with solo work to devote time to the group. In a 2007 interview Rutherford stated that Mike and the Mechanics had "run its course."

Diana Ross, no less, covered Carrack's co-write with Nick Lowe, 'Battlefield', and as an in-demand collaborator, Paul's decades of distinction include sessions with The Smiths, Elton John, Roxy Music, B.B. King and countless others, culminating in an invitation from Eric Clapton to join his touring band.

While traveling to Rome as a prisoner, Paul was shipwrecked on an island. On the island, he was bitten by a snake but remained unharmed, and he healed many who were sick. Paul was eventually taken to Rome, where he lived under house arrest for two years and taught and testified of Jesus Christ.

Mike & The Mechanics are an English rock/pop supergroup formed in 1985 as a side project of Mike Rutherford, one of the founding members of the band Genesis. The initial line-up for the band was Rutherford on bass, vocalists Paul Carrack and Paul Young, keyboardist Adrian Lee and drummer Peter Van Hooke.

Lead singer of Mike And The Mechanics and ex-member of 70's band Ace. Although he alternated the role of lead vocalist in Mike and the Mechanics with Paul M. Young, Carrack sang the band's most famous song "The Living Years", which became a number one hit single in the US in 1989.

The name Mike and the Mechanics came as a response to Mike not being the bands lead singer. As Mike puts it; "It's always strange when you write an album under your own name, but you're not the singer.

Unlike most other Squeeze songs, which are sung usually by Tilbrook or Difford, the song's lead vocal is sung by newly recruited keyboardist Paul Carrack. According to Carrack, this was the result of a suggestion by co-producer Elvis Costello: They'd actually recorded a version of that song before I was on board.
