Why is my char broil not getting hot enough? ›

You can try cleaning the burner by using a grill brush to remove the drippings from the inside and outside of the burners. If the burners are too clogged, you may need to replace the burners. Flame tamers cover the burners on a gas grill.

Give the grill 20 minutes to preheat at high heat, giving the Char-Griller Cast Iron Grates a chance to get screaming hot, which will give us those gorgeous sear marks we are after. Fire needs oxygen, and if enough ash builds up inside of the grill it can make it next to impossible to get the coals burning well, or to keep them lit. It's very important to clean out left over ashes, not only to help the coals burn better, but to help keep the grill in great shape as well.

Clean your grill thoroughly, removing any debris or grease build up that might be blocking the vents. Check the burner dampers, also known as air filters, and ensure they're open wide enough to allow air to enter the flow in freely. The most common cause of grills not heating up is because the element has somehow become damaged. By unscrewing the heating element, you will be able to conduct a visual examination of you element to access the damage. If the heating element is damaged in any way it will need to be replaced.

The timer and temperature seems to be working, but the heating element isn't getting hot. Unplug and reconnect the heating element by removing the cover plate located on the back of the smoker and try again. If that doesn't solve this issue the heating element will need to be replaced.
