Biggest Frustration
Long sales cycles and the economy.
Biggest Win
Financially, my biggest win was with DuPont in 2020, right before the pandemic hit. I got super lucky on the timing – if they had waited even a week longer, they probably wouldn’t have signed that contract. From a logo recognition perspective, Amazon or Google.
Most Rewarding Sale
Either Driscoll’s or Harbor Freight Tools in the Kenexa days, because I did them entirely on my own. I went onsite without a PM or Consultant, did the demo and pitch alone.
Most Embarrassing Moment
The Republic Services pitch in Phoenix with Chad and Shelly. It was my first in person pitch, I was terrified, and it showed. I was awful. Full stop. But, it was a huge learning experience, and I am very glad to say that I rebounded nicely.
Do you prefer to pitch alone or in a group?
There are pros and cons to both – I like pitching alone because I am a bit of a control freak and I don’t have to account for what anyone else might say or do. Conversely, pitching in a group is great because it’s so nice to be able to bounce ideas and comments off others, have someone else there to help if you’re starting to falter, and I think it really helps to showcase the personality of the company if the prospect can meet two or three people vs just me.
If you were not in sales what would you be doing?
I never had a “dream job” in mind – probably why I ended up in sales! Originally, I went to school to be a forensic psychologist and I wanted to be a professional witness in court cases involving serious crimes. So, maybe that? Or, something far less intense, like a professional organizer to feed my OCD.
“I find great joy in connecting with individuals who prioritize active listening above all else, possess a keen sense of situational awareness to adapt seamlessly to any environment, and exhibit confidence without ego.”
